The short version
What you log stays on your phone unless you sign in. Signing in backs it up, syncs it and lets you share a Blok with people you choose. We don't use advertising or analytics services, and we never sell your data.
1. Using MemoBlok without an account
MemoBlok works fully signed out. What you enter stays on your phone and is never sent to us. We cannot see it, and we cannot recover it if you lose or reset the phone.
Your phone still talks to two services on its own. If you turn on Location, it asks Apple to name places and draw maps (see section 4). And it checks with our purchase provider, using an anonymous ID, so you can buy or restore Premium (see section 6).
2. When you sign in
Signing in is optional and uses Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In. When you sign in, what you have logged so far is backed up, and from then on we store:
- the Bloks you track, their settings, goals and goal history;
- your entries: values, dates, notes, tags and subcategories, and, if Location is on, where you were when you logged them (the precise position, and the city, region and country);
- your Repeat schedules, which repeats you logged or skipped, and your reminder settings;
- your own categories, units, subcategories and tags;
- a display name, if you set one (you need one to join a shared Blok);
- your Premium membership: the plan, the store, whether it is a trial, and when it renews or ends; and
- an account identifier, the email address Apple or Google gives us, and your name if Apple or Google shares it. With Apple the email may be a private relay address. With Google your account can also include a link to your profile picture.
While you are signed in, our database and sync providers also keep server logs of the requests your phone makes, including its IP address, your account identifier and basic details about your device and app version. We use them to run the service and keep it secure (see section 11).
3. Sharing a Blok
When you share a Blok or join one, its entries go to its other members, including entries logged before the sharing started, except where they were logged, which never leaves your account. Members also see the Blok's name, icon and description, the names of the tags and subcategories on its entries, and your display name. When someone joins, a copy of the Blok's details (its name, icon, description, category and unit) is added to their account and stays there.
A member's phone keeps the shared entries until it next syncs after the sharing ends, and members may keep copies they made themselves, such as exports or screenshots. When sharing ends or someone leaves, the remaining members keep a record of who took part, with that person's display name and the Blok's name. If that person deletes their account, both names are removed from those records.
Any member can report another. We store who made the report, the display name of the person reported and the reason chosen, and we read reports ourselves. Reports about you are kept after you delete your account, so we can deal with abuse. Text other members will see is checked on your phone against a short word list, and nothing is sent anywhere for that check.
4. Location
MemoBlok asks for location the first time you log, and only ever for “while using the app” access. It never collects location in the background. If you allow it, each new entry records where you were. You can turn this off at any time in Settings › Location or in your phone's settings, and you can remove the place from any entry that shows one.
When you log, the app takes one position reading. If that takes too long, it uses the last position your phone already knows. To name the place, your phone's built-in geocoder sends the coordinates to Apple, including for entries logged offline, once you are back online. The maps in the app are Apple Maps.
5. Reminders
Reminders are scheduled on your phone. There is no push service and no reminder data on our servers beyond your settings. The one other notification is a reminder two days before a free trial ends, and only if you allow notifications and have reminders turned on.
6. Premium purchases
Purchases are made through the App Store, and our purchase provider manages them for us. It receives an anonymous ID, or your account ID once you sign in, your purchase history, and basic information about your device and app version. This happens whether or not you are signed in, so that you can buy and restore Premium.
We store the membership details listed in section 2. We never see your payment details.
7. Who processes your data
These providers process data for us, only on our instructions:
- our database and sign-in provider, which also runs our server functions;
- our backup and sync provider;
- our purchase provider (see section 6); and
- our web host, for this website.
You also use Apple and Google directly, under their own privacy policies: Apple for Sign in with Apple, App Store payments, place names and maps, and Google for Google Sign-In.
8. Emails to support
Send Feedback, Report a Problem and Email support open an email draft. It includes the app version, build and environment, your phone model, the iOS version, and up to five recent error codes, with when they happened, what the app was doing and short technical details. It never includes your entries. Nothing is sent until you press Send. Your phone keeps at most 20 codes, and none of them leave it on their own.
9. What we do not collect
No advertising, no analytics services, no tracking across apps or websites, and no sale or sharing of your data for advertising. MemoBlok does not ask for your contacts, photos, microphone or health data. Because we don't track you across apps or websites, a browser's Do Not Track signal doesn't change anything we do.
10. This website
www.memoblok.com sets no cookies, runs no analytics and makes no requests to any other server. Our web host keeps standard request logs, including IP addresses, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
11. How long we keep it
We keep account data while your account exists. Deleting your account removes it and everything stored with it from our systems, except reports made about you, which we keep with your display name to deal with abuse. Your name also comes off other members' records of shares you took part in. Server logs and database backups are kept for 7 days, so something you delete can stay in a backup for up to a week before it's gone. Support emails are kept only as long as we need them to help you and follow up. If you choose to keep your Bloks on your phone when you delete your account, that copy stays only on your phone, as it would without an account. Data kept only on your phone is removed when you delete the app.
12. Your rights
You can get a free copy of your data at Settings › Raw Data File, and delete your account at Settings › Delete account. You can also ask us to correct, restrict or move your data, or object to how we use it. California residents have the same rights under the CCPA, and since we never sell or share personal information there is nothing to opt out of.
Write to ayen@memoblok.com from your account's email address, and we will reply within 30 days. If you can't write from that address, for example because Apple gave us a private relay address, write anyway and we will find another way to confirm it's you.
13. Children
MemoBlok is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 to create an account.
14. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest on our systems, and access controls mean an account can only read its own data and the Bloks shared with it. On your phone, iOS protects it with the app sandbox and device encryption.
15. Changes to this policy
When we change how we handle your data, we update this page and its date. For material changes, we will also try to let you know in the app or by email.
